Because we don’t all have the ‘WWII assets’ pack yet, i have created a copy of Philstyle’s DCS SOW Italy campaign, only using standard ‘modern’ equipment as a substitute for WWII stuff.
The mission includes air targets (several enemy CAP with Fw190’s and Bf109’s), ‘soft’ enemy ground units, (made up of jeeps, trucks, petrol tankers) and fighter escort missions to Hercules (masquerading as C-47’s) which attempt to drop paratroops behind enemy lines.
For those who like sightseeing, the Monte Cassino monastery has been re-created on a hilltop, but watch out as there are some flak units nearby.
For the human touch, some Fw190’s & Bf109’s are available for pilots who want to play aggressors.
On the allied side to keep things simple only the basic Spitfire for all EAF 41 & 51. The 41 Wing Spitfires have real squadron codes and historically accurate serial numbers. In 51 Stormo, I have added historically real serial numbers for MkIX Spitfires sold to the Italian Air Force (after the war). Each wing has it’s own reconnaissance TF-51 and a flight of P-51’s, the 51 boys even get Italian markings !
A few of us tested the mission last night and I have made a few adjustments today, like slowing down the Hercules so that we can keep up with them, AI flight plan modifications, the addition of aggressor flights and some more AAA on the allied side of the front line.
Mission file available on request.
