I’ll keep this brief (as some of you will have already read my initial post in the IL2 Sturmovik thread, and possibly looked at my forum profile), so… following Starfire’s insightful advice, and having recently been accepted on to the training program, I am know acting under the callsign EAF_T_Baz, formerly Hurrifan, or Baz… or Andrew (others may form their own names for me over time:D), and I very much look forward to learning from and flying with everyone in the EAF.
Given the international membership of the EAF and acting on my own volition I would like to offer an apology (having been an active member for a little over an hour ). In a recent post I casually made reference to a quotation from James McCudden, (a notable First World War Ace), in which he (not me), derogatorily uses the word “hun”. Despite its historical context, if you have taken offence from this please be advised I do not support such semantics, and erroneously perhaps, used the quote somewhat in haste.:o
I’m not offended…but then again I’m an Anglo-Irishman from South London
I wouldn’t worry though. It isn’t the first time Hun has been bandied about on the forum or on TS.
On McCudden, most of us know who he is and there is a core group of us playing Rise of Flight over the Trenches of Flanders. In our Campaign No56 (with McCudden, RhysDavies etc) have just moved in up the road and we’ll probably be seeing more of them as we patrol the line.
hehe, no worries Baz. We do have a German pilot in here (Hiawatha) and he was the first person I asked, and got the OK from, before making a video a while back based on the official WW2 training booklet “Bag The Hun”.
I dont think theres need for an apology Baz, its all in context and to a certain extent we are role playing world war two RAF organisation the usual slang terms should not affect anyone and in fact in my opinion add to the immersion
Its all part of the role playing and it’s quite easy to get caught up with the language of the day with reading books of the era and the flying. Its about the nearest any of us will get to an understanding of what it was like…Or is just me
Offended by Hun? I even get called a Yankee once in a while, what a bunch rude characters these EAFers are don’t they know I live in the Deep South?:roflmao::bootyshk:
Welcome to the EAF Baz, , its all good! look forward to flying with you some time:D
Absolutely appreciated your introduction post and WELCOME !
With pleasure last Monday I saw you in flight with us and I hope you had fun.
No reason for me to be hurted about your using of the word “hun” and I think (as I see) neither the others, but very appreciated your way of doing.
See you in virtual skies!
It’s even happened a few times that we have called a scot an englishman! :eek2: (Though I’m not sure who should be most offended, the scots or the english? :roflmao: )
Many thanks Gents for your comments, reassurances and advice. Its good to know that such language is taken in the spirit of contributing to historical immersion.
Also thanks Joe90 and Apollo for bring to my attention, (and underlining the importance of) the excellent video. I could tell you that a lot of what was depicted and described I was aware of, but for those of you who have seen me in combat… well who isn’t guilty of little self delusion now and again. Besides my offline AI buddies have grown to understand my mastery of deflecting the enemies attention whilst they hammer home our intentions:D
