Buying a new PC, are those parts good match?

Hey guys,

I am thinking to buy a new PC to replace my now 6 years old rig. It must be powerful enough to cope with todays games and at a foreseen minimum 3 years ahead before shifting any parts out. I also wish the new PC will be able to efficiently record games (by FRAPS) and do moviemaking, HD rendering etc.

Here is a list of parts I would like to buy to then build into my new PC. I would appreciate all feedback and especially if you have tips or suggestions on changes.

Here is the list, hope its not too thick to read through.:roflmao:

  • Tower: Antec Nine Hundred Midi Tower Two, black, fans: 2x 120mm Front, 1x 200mm Top, 1x 120mm rear, Blue LEDs, window

  • Mobo: ASUS P6X58D-E, X58, Socket-1366 DDR3, ATX, SATA 6Gb/s, USB3.0, Firewire, GbLAN, 3xPCI-Ex(2.0)x16

  • CPU: Intel Core™ i7 Quad Processor i7-930 Quad Core, 2.8Ghz, Socket 1366, 8MB, 130W, Boxed w/fan

  • PSU: Corsair HX 850W PSU ATX 12V V2.2, Modular, 6x 6+2-pin PCIe, 12x SATA, 140mm fan

  • GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5970 2GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0, “BLACK”, 2xDVI-I, HDMI, DisplayPort

  • RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz 12GB CL9 Kit w/6x 2GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24, for Core i7, 1.65v

  • HDD: Hitachi Deskstar™ 7K1000.C 1TB 7200RPM, 3,5", 32MB Cache, SATA 3Gb/s

  • SSD Corsair SSD Nova Series 2,5" 128GB SATA2, 270MB/195MB/s read/write, incl 2,5" to 3,5" bracket

  • Mouse: Razer Imperator Gaming Mouse 5600 dpi 5600DPI Razer Precicion 3.5G laser Sensor

  • Mousepad: SteelSeries QCK heavy

  • OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate EN OEM, 64bit

  • I haven’t decided on any CD/DVD ROM yet, but I guess it hasn’t changed much since 2004.

Price is around 2600 Euros / 3242 USD. ()

Since its also my first time to buy an SSD, can it be fitted in as an ordinary SATA HDD and use that power supply too?

I also hope the huge 4970 will fit in the case :p.

Any feedback is again very appreciated!

I see some good changes from what we discussed on monday.

MB looks good, as does PSU (same as me ;)), graphics card will probably be really great (though perhaps slightly overkill).
I didn’t see any reason to go with Win7 Ultra instead of Home Premium, but you might.

The SSD seems to have some good sides and some bad sides compared to the Intel X25-M that have been on the top for a while (and what I have), I’d probably go with the one that’s cheaper. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/150?vs=126

I can’t find anything that looks bad in your setup.

The Corsair Nova SSD is good as system disk, but below average for copying/writing files. I think I would prefer an Intel SSD.

There is no obvious place for a SSD drive in the Antec 900-2. I guess you could place it where the 3,5 disc is supposed to be mounted. That is below the DVD, and above the harddrives. If you want better cooling for it you will have to mount it inside one of the harddrive cages, but you will have to figure out some way to mount it.

All parts look great, and this will be a high-end gaming computer. You could save som money by getting an ATI 5870 and skip the SSD, but that is up to you. How about investing in a real good joystick instead?
