Chaps,
I’ve re-installed everything, but sometimes it crashes to a blue screen.
the only thing to get out of it is a full reboot. The only thing I’ve added that is new is X45 and CH pro pedals USB and their software.
The error seems to say
bad pool caller (or something like that)
Any ideas?

Have you got Dr Watson running? If so could you upload drwtsn32.log somewhere? Or cut & paste the summary bits from the most recent entry, like this…

PeeGee I’ve checked the log, and nothing is there about it, when it crashes it obviously doesn’t get to the writing stage.
Next time it happends, I will write it down and post it up.
Thanks for looking

PeeGee how do you use Dr Watson please? Do you load it up at bootup or something? I’ve found the 32bit version and got a shortcut to it on the desktop and the logfile (always blank grrr!) location but I’m not sure how to use it properly. Had a sound-related hard boot last night and I’d like to get some feedback on what caused it if poss ta mate
Also this looks promising for BSOD faultfinding on the pool (interrupts) thing:

I’ve re-installed everything
Did you put new video/graphics drivers in at all?
Might be worth checking the Intel or AMD website for the latest chipset drivers, depending on which CPU you’ve got.
Is it in game, or not? Just IL2?
Did you change sound settings?
Ming - Dr Watson is inbuilt with XP and I believe some other flavours of Windows. It runs in the background (unless you’ve disabled it), if you’ve got an empty drwtsn32.log that simply means it hasn’t had anything to record.
It is more useful for application layer problems, and even then sometimes a crash can be so hard it doesn’t manage to write to log.
Less useful for hardware issues, although sometimes a hardware fault will also generate an application error, which can help to trace it.
I can only read them at a superficial level, although that is often enough, at least to get a “clue”. An expert can tell a lot more from the memory addresses logged, but I’ve never taken it that far.
Incidentally, my old PC is suffering intermittent freezes, which I suspect is an issue between the wireless adapter and the old PSU, but that doesn’t record anything with Dr Watson either.
Splash - I know I am on my favourite hobby - horse again, but have you checked and double checked your AV and anti-spyware? On XP it is worth turning off system restore before doing a full system scan with both?
Let us know how you are getting on.
Ah thanks PeeGee - got it now ta mate

I think I’ve sorted it,
It would only happen in a game, (e.g. when I press the buttons in the menu part of FB). The button would go in and stick and then crash to a blue screen after a while.
I’ve done another install but this time put in Direct 9.0c (I forgot last time :o , I’m pretty sure you need that with SP2, don’t you?
It all seems sweet now, fingers crossed
Thanks for the help chaps
