Here is another problem that has just poped up after about 45 minutes playing Silent Hunter 4:mad:. It did not Blue Screen when I Restarted it…
You might want to check your memory, if using Vista there’s a built in function to do it, if you’re on XP or something else you can download Memtest86 and make a bootable CD to run it from.
atiduag … start by uninstalling graphics drivers, use drivercleaner to clear out (follow instructions) and re-install latest ati drivers from AMD/Ati site.

Ok done, still having problems?
I burned memtest to disk but on startup it will not run… checked the BIOS and it is booting from disk? Any ideas?
hmmm … if you put the xp cd in and turn the pc on, does it say “press any key to boot from cd” after a bit ? (don’t press a key , just let it go past that but try it to see if it gives you that prompt).
No it does not, but you can choose the Boot menu which I have and manually chose E Disk for startup with no results?
Then you don’t have the cd drive set as first boot priority.
You need to make sure thats at the top of the list in the boot options in the bios (or listed as first boot device) not from the boot menu, otherwise it will ignore it as it finds a bootable hard drive first.
Ok, ran Memtest with Results of No errors?
Ok now download, extract and install prime 95 and run the stress test (maximum heat and power consumption option) for a couple of hours. (you can surf and such like while its testing, just the pc will be less responsive).

I don’t think you will have any errors (I feel its a graphics hardware or software issue myself) but it will rule out your cpu and psu, end it after a couple of hours if it doesn’t report any errors.
What CPU and PSU do you have BTW ?
Good stuff Majik.
In general dear readers of the future, if your operating system gives that scary blue screen at bootup, you see references to drivers and binary numbers and nothing is working and you get desperate-
Try removing all your memory sticks (static strap!) and put just one in the first slot, then disconnect any hardware that’s not absolutely essential to boot to Windows. Reset BIOS to Defaults and perhaps clear the BIOS when desperate
This odd problem is a bloody nuisance if you’ve never had it and there’s some chance of getting it every time you install or re-install Windows, it’s usually caused by the Windows installer getting suspicious about the system it finds itself asked to drive “Who are you?” (no reply from hardware, perhaps legacy hardware) “Cannot identify you, ending” - that sort of thing. Minimising the hardware attached means less chance of encountering the problem. Then when Windows is fully installed you can add back the kit and Windows is happier as it’s now fully installed
