A new monitor, but help required please

hi guys

Just got the office finished in the new house and its time to assemble my home PC again but I need a new monitor and was after some advice from my fellow EAF’ers

I’m definitely looking for 27" or bigger but not sure whether to get a straight monitor or a TV monitor. Are the refresh rates on standard HD TV’s suitable for gaming? Heres a few options I was looking at, sorry for so many but I am really none the wiser on whats my best option) The monitors primary purpose is for me to play IL2 at home, theres a fair amount of office tasks to do and if it were available I’d occasionally watch TV or DVD’s on it.

Last one is a wildcard as its a 3D jobby although I have no idea if that will affect all of the 2D stuff that we do.

Use a 32" 1080p LG myself.
I have no complaints. Much cheaper option than a 30" monitor that I actually want.
For your budget and what you want it to do, you can’t go wrong. Big screen with occasional TV and DVD viewing.

If it’s for out and out gaming, I’d go for the smaller 27 with the higher res 2560x1440 not the 1080 versions. Provided you have the video card that can handle it.
If your budget limits you to the 1080p 27" monitors, then give them a swerve and get a good LED TV 32"+ panel.

That’s what I’d do

Thanks Brigstock, it seems my ambitions on a 32" TV/monitor have been quashed  the wife thinks it will make the office look too small, I’m still trying to work around her

Whats up with the 27" 1920 x 1080? I had the idea that the big screen with a fairly low resolution for the size may assist my dot spotting

Just my way of thinking

Why get a 1080p 27" monitor when you can get a 32"+ for the same money.
But I’d definitely look at the higher res 27" just for crispness on the IQ.

But if you are space limited/Mrs bound (like myself  Then a 27 1080 might be your only option.
As for dot spotting the larger 1080 will give you a larger dot
