51° Stormo 75th Anniversary video!

Hello chaps!

Thanks for the mission and tracks yesterday! I’m about to go through them now.

Just a few questions…

1. Intro:

At the intro, you wanted both EAF 51 and real 51 logo. Do you want them side by side / below one another - OR fade in one after the other?

2. Coat of arms:

Is this the EAF 51 logo?

And this is the real 51 logo?

If I am wrong then I will of course use whatever is correct.

3. Skins:

Do you only want to show 51 in those skins Chip gave me? If yes, can I use any of them or only some specific skins?

If the footage from yesterday is not enough, I may try and make more action videos in FMB. That is why I must know if I can use all of Chips skins, or only a selected few.

If I cannot use all of them but only some specific skins, please tell me what they are called. For now I will focus on ICAF skins only, but I can show 51 in RA or AMI skins if you want.

4. Aircraft types:

This is connected to the previous question. I may create action clips in FMB to make the video more exciting. Do you want me to only show ICAF, or also 51’s time in the RA and post war AMI? Do you want me to show all aircraft types 51 used or specific types? Please mention what aircraft you want me to show - and if you want me to show both RA, ICAF and AMI or only ICAF etc.

I will use Chip’s skins for RA, ICAF and AMI etc. If that skin pack I got from Chip is not complete, I will happily download more skins.

5. Video showing the history of 51 from RA-ICAF-AMI (1940-1946+):

If you want I can make the video a “timeline travel” - you see the squadrons evolution from RA to ICAF to AMI. You will see them flying over historical accurate theatres of war. North Africa, Malta, Sicily, southern Italy, Balkans.

I hope my questions are not too confusing, please ask if I am not clear enough.

I downloaded a couple more skins from your own website http://www.eaf51.org/Download_skins_History.htm.

P39-Q1 ICAF skin
Spit Vc ICAF skins
Spit IXc AMI skins
P47-D51 AMI skin

My plan for now will be to focus on the coop track from monday and ICAF period. Make sure to answer my questions in time if you have any specific wishes

BTW this is the skin Jimmi and Walty used during the first coop mission two weeks ago! This is from Snafus track of that mission.

There are some great DF and formation scenes in it, can I use them? I noticed the skin looks exactly the same from yesterday’s MC 205’s.

What about this skin that Cappe used? Can I show it? The scene has a very nice formation flight!

Attention, the skin of P39 ICAF is not the 51 ° Stormo but the 4 ° Stormo!
Has nothing to do with the planes of the 51st.
(google traslator)

Attenzione, la skin del P39 ICAF non è del 51°Stormo ma del 4° Stormo!
Non c’entra con gli aerei del 51°.

Planes WWII (Regia Aeronautica & ICAF)
Fiat G50
Macchi M.C.200
Macchi M.C.202
Macchi M.C.205
Spitfire Mk.VB

Planes postwar period (A.M.I.)
Spitfire Mk.IX
P-51 Mustang
P-47 Thunderbolt

Thank you very much, Chip!

Now I know what planes to use.

I will not show P39. Good to know!

Question: what about Spitfire Vc (4x 20mm)? Can I show that too, or only Vb or Vc with 2x 20mm?

Only MKV trop with 2x 20 mm!

About the logos, the first is the actual real 51st squadron logo, the second is the older (WWII period) one.

And we use the WWII logo for the EAF.

PS: yesterday i had really fun both in il2 and COD…a GREAT EVENING! Thank you all guys, is such a joy flying with you!

Oh, so it’s the other way around.

I was supposed to represent both your virtual squadron (EAF 51) and the real one, each with their correct coat of arms.

So to avoid confusion, I may use the EAF logo for you guys, and then we have to decide whether to use the modern or WWII logo for the real squadron? My suggestion but I’m open for anything!

Spit Vb only - got it, thanks!

If suitable you can add the EAF logo (that on the homepage of http://www.europeanaf.net side by side with the 51° Stormo WWII logo

Yes, I think that is the best choice of logos. I will try both showing one by one or side by side.

Then if we want to overdo it, this is the official logo of the anniversary of the event!

Thank you. I will make some variations and show them.

i would say

Regia Aeronautica
Fiat G50
Macchi M.C.200
Macchi M.C.202

ICAF
Macchi M.C.202
Macchi M.C.205
Spitfire Mk.VB

Planes postwar period (A.M.I.)
Spitfire Mk.IX
P-51 Mustang
P-47 Thunderbolt

i would say!

  1. Keep it simple!

  2. Have fun!

  3. perfection is enemy of the good!

  4. Secondary goal: if you make a fast show of every propeller plane flown by 51 it would be great

  5. throwing in some formation flying by EAF51 plus some combat footage would be great

said this if you can make all of this for this saturday you will make us very happy!

Another question: are swastikas illegal to show or too much of a sensitive subject?

Just want to of course avoid any bad feelings, especially from visitors outside EAF, and to represent EAF 51 and real 51 in the best light possible.

I have some footage already recorded that has the swastika on the rudder of 109’s and 110’s. They are not easily seen and disappear quickly though, but if it is sensitive I will re-record without the swastika of course!

Also, is there any problem to show the fascist government emblem? They are obviously on the RA skins, so I presume they are OK?

Looking forward to make this a nice promo vid for you all!

They are reproductions of historic aircraft, the swastika as the beam are symbols of past dictatorial regimes! By this standard, we should also remove the red star communist !!
Leave the swastika and the beam for me, and if someone is offended, that’s his problem !! (google traslatori… )

Thanks, Chip.

I agree, I always look at aircraft and thus their emblems and identifications as part of historical accuracy, and leave the politics out of it. If people get offended by historical accuracy, I hope they can see past the politics and look at it with rational eyes, as my heart and ethos in my productions strive to represent history.

I will listen to what others have to say about this before doing anything with this subject.

I believe there will be no problem. The fascist symbol on Regia Aeronautica planes is historically correct, and the symbol is not forbidden by law in Italy.
The svastika is forbidden by law only in Germany. In any case it was the national flag during the nazi regime.
Former 51° Stoemo personnel usually know history, therefore I am more tan sure no one will raise any issue.

And as no one is questionaing about the flag of ISIS in many websites, that today is even worst, I believe there will be no problem at all for hystorically correct skins.

Thanks for the reply, Bear.

Now I mus confess an extreme bad timing of bad luck. Yesterday night my GPU malfunctioned. Only one of the two fans are working and it overheats very easily now. I am under-clocking it, down to the bare minimum, to make sure it doesn’t die on me while I do this important work. I just want to warn you that in worst case, my video wont be finished because my GPU dies suddenly at any time now.

I’m doing my best to buy myself time and are working as fast as I can to finish your video. Such rotten luck that I have all the time in the world to make favours for you all, but when I finally get an appointment, the GPU breaks!

I’ll keep you updated, but if you have any backup plans to compensate for my lack of video, then please make it ready.

Terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but I will keep fingers crossed it will survive a few more days!

Don’t worry!!

Keep calm and carry on!!

I want to hear what you think of the video at this stage.

Here is a rough cut. No visual effects has been applied yet, only raw cutting. All footage is real EAF 51 from both Balkans coop missions.

Quality is lower than intended with purpose to make this preview a small download.

It is 14 minutes long. Should be long enough to make people always see something new when they look up now and then.

Some scenes have not been completed yet: the acrobatics at the end and extra dogfight scenes made in FMB if necessary.

If you feel the first two dogfight scenes are too long, my idea was to cut it into more parts with external view of Walty and the 109’s.

The last two dogfights are from first Balkans mission.

You can choose to download or watch through Google, Google is fine enough: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_IThXMidDRWOEtLdEVyZGN0bW8/edit?usp=sharing

No sound to keep size low. And I presume you wont hear anything on the exhibition, so for now not prioritized.

I will of course make it with sound if you want. Video will be improved as much as I can within the time limit. And then after the exhibition I will continue improving it with your help and comments, to promote EAF on YouTube.

Enjoy
