And I don’t mean comic ones

Generally underwhelmed I must say after a quick spin.

I think Oleg and Co have missed a huge chance with this one and have been well and truly left behind by the modded version, having left to long between the beta and final.

The new aircraft are very well modelled and look the part, but apart from that there is nothing that grabs you as a ‘WOW’ moment compared with some of the unofficial stuff, such as the Spitfire MkXIV and Canons map.

Anyone else feel the same??

I agree chris, and where is the support for 2 throttles that were in the promo vid on simhq???

And the possibility to have four different joystick presets? And the possibility to access joy setup while online without leave the server?

I didnt test it till now but I think its fair to mention, its not olegs work but daidalos’.
Also the most of the really new things were announced for future patches.
I think its great to have patches still coming. For me its not Mods vs. new Patches, I think the Mod-guys will always be able to make use of the new patches. All in all its just better for us, getting more content and what is most important to me, quality-content. I can’t stand frankenplane-stuff and wrong cokcpits. But to combine the best of the Mods with the new patches just sounds wonderful to me

Had a quick blast - its not groundbreaking but nice SM79 and always had a soft spot for the Fokker DXXI…

Updated view distance and new skins are cool too (no more dull plain green Bf109E-4 as the default).

But to combine the best of the Mods with the new patches just sounds wonderful to me

Hmmm not sure I’ve installed it correctly.

Running JGSME with Ultrapack 1.7 - I disabled all mods then selected -4.08OFF from the switcher to allow the patch to install over vanilla. Then aimed the patch and skin update at the main install.

Fired up Il-2 and bingo 4.09 official!!

Thought right - copy the .exe from main folder - put it in JGSME mods 4.08 folder and rename it - so it would leave me with 4.09 vanilla + 4.09 mods.

However JGSMe didn’t pick up renamed folder and when selected in the switcher loaded up old 4.08…:confused::confused:

Am I right in thinking then we must wait for the ultrapack modders to provide a mod-friendly 4.09 .exe or am I doing something wrong here? Ie anyone got the new patch working alongside UI/AAA/Ultrapak?

Update for JGSME users

After patching up to 4.09 - Created a new folder in MODS - called 4.09Official - then copied new .exe and files .sfs from main folder into there.

Result - JGSME will now switch between Ultrapack, 4.09, and even 4.08.

And to get 4.09 working with mods apparently you can d/l the Russian files.sfs

http://il2ultrapack.net46.net/index.php/topic,419.msg3961.html

(However this will disable the new 4.09 planes until folk add them to the modded versions.)

I might try creating another folder in JSGME MODS and try the 4.09 + this Sfs in there… Though I have a feeling that this will turn all the menus cyrllic again…

Considering that Oleg said that there would be no more development on IL-2, I think your expectations have been to big.

All the videos clearly states:
“Everything shown in this video is still WIP and will be released after 4.09”

I am just glad that the patch finally are out and no longer in beta. Hopefully the guys at AAA will make a patch that will incorporate the release of 409.

The best improvements are actually in the 409 .exe, and in the flight model.
As a bonus we get some nice maps, and a few more planes.

We should be greatfull and consider the patch a bonus

They are indeed working on it so as they both work together, although that pushes back the 1.2 release a bit (no 'frankenplanes in 1.2 btw, but lots of good stuff)

I’m pretty pleased with it, and glad to see at least the 4.08/4.09 mix ups sorted.

Was making a quick dogfight in MTO, a lovely new map, and the sea is the right colour. SM79 old but has a pretty hefty torp that can sink a destroyer in one go.

Very nice too to be shot down, bail out over the destroyer, and be able to parachute without every friggin AAA gun having a go at me

Am chuffed for our Italian brothers finaly having a native bomber to fly, the rest of the aircraft in the patch are right down my street, being a “crap planes” fan of long standing.

New aircraft, new map’s, jumping out no longer a suicide option near enemy flak, all good for me, and for free !.

I also look forward to the 1.2 UI, with no wrapper ( so no 5 min loading times/application focus issues and no frankenplanes )

And its reasuring to see that IL2 development continues.

Not impressed…back to basics with it…I’ll stick to the modded version till some-one gets the sfs sorted.

I dont think any official patch will ever replace our modded versions

That would divert a massive amount of manhours away from BoB.
According to a mature model I know such a step would limit Olegs shop of surviving the future

I just hope that Oleg shop get inspired by the modders work

Just thinking of a lot of the stuff that the modders have done, combined with a new an more complex flightmodel. I can’t stop droling

The IL-2 engine is old. To old for my tast. The journey through the complex intricasies of flying full real in IL-2 are no longer enough. I am ready for more. More realisme. More complex a/c management. More, more, more…
I crave for more :gnammy:

Does anyone know how to make mods working with 4.09M official patch?

On the positive side about IL-2 beeing old, it still runs ok on my old PC.

Installed the patch today and did some flying, can’t say I noticed any big differences compared to 4.08, but I did get a feeling Ace AI have become a tad better. Or at least they stay and fight instead of go running away when I get the upper hand?
