332 Squadron Leader Wilhelm Mohr, dies 99 years old

Du stiger ikke inn i en Spitfire, du kler den p? deg!
You don’t climb into a Spitfire, you wear it!

  • Wilhelm Mohr.

Fly high and ever blue skies, Wilhelm Mohr. He has now left this world, 99 years old. A Norwegian freedom fighter who rose to Major in the RAF during the war and finally Lieutenant General in the Royal Norwegian Air Force after the war.

Already a professional military pilot before WWII, he fought in the battle of Norway in 1940, then left the country to keep fighting, wondering if he would ever see the Norwegian coast again. Trained in Little Norway, Canada. Joined No. 332 Squadron RAF and became Squadron Leader throughout the war. Continued to serve in the Royal Norwegian Air Force after the war. Always a gentleman, always happy to educate younger generations about the real life as a frontline fighter pilot in WWII for over 4 years. A life full of hardships and so many friends lost. At the end of the war, only a handful of pilots had survived the entire struggle from 1940-1945 together with Wilhelm Mohr. 80% pilot casualties in the Norwegian fighter squadrons of 331 and 332.

The lucky few lived on to honor the memories of their lost friends. Friends who fought just so they could return to their families in a free Norway, but never got to see its coast again, rugged and weathered over the water.

Honour and respect for those who has devoted his life to save the lives of many others.
Rest in peace Big Man
