Enjoyable (if not quite long) mission.
We flew as right side escort for a formation of B25’s, RV’ed OK and formed up, approx 2000ft higher, with another flight on the left and one sweeping ahead.
The B25’s started the bomb run after a flight of approx 33 minutes when a couple of contacts were seen high to our right, Repent and Osprey stayed with the bombers as per brief while Ming and myself went to chase them away. On return we were forming again with the bombers when Ming (its ALWAYS Ming for some reason) got hit from out of nowhere (dunno if it was AAA or airfire) and had to bail.
From then on the Axis made what we discussed as a major tactic mistake by attacking in seperate pairs as opposed to a mass formation, giving the Spitfires time to engage/destroy/damage/drive away the enemy and reform with the bombers.
We had a running fight with the 109/190’s all of the return but in general our objective was achieved, only two or three B25’s were lost to enemy action, two collided flying through cloud in close formation.
Or brief was to protect the bombers and drive enemy away, which we achieved to max effect and all I can say is thx gents, and next time one is up we should try to ‘book’ slots en-mass if poss (Swoop arrived and was accepted as reserve but I think all red turned up, sorry mate) and fly as an escort wing, show what EAF can do.
yer it was a good mission, quite enjoyable, i stayed for the second one too which was equally as fun.
Very nice I enjoyed that chaps, good fun getting organised and very immersive/realistic. Good work from Oz and Rep’s element
Bounced I’m afraid I was Chris, you’d called vapour trails seen above but I was concentrating on staying with the bomber flight cos I knew that we’d need to be professional to impress our hosts first time in
I’ll be looking out for more missions from those guys, in turn they are also a professional outfit, great fun
