Time for change!

So let’s do like USA did, and go for some real change!

Theres always one in the bunch! :stuck_out_tongue:

I say Lomac with all the MODS I have is almost as large as my IL2 file :stuck_out_tongue:
Forget flying a P-38 at tree top level try it in a F-15 with full Afterburner

Yeah I fell for it too.

Never trust a man who sleeps with a gun under his bed, thats what I say.

That wasn’t a gun under his bed Phil, he was just pleased to see you!

WB.

What’s he doing in his bedroom anyway

Ming

No no no, the AMMO is under the bed. The guns (ok, only one) are of course in the nightstand. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve got Lockon, never played it really, taking off with afterburners though is cool

Sterling.

We believe you honest Mikke

So if a man breaks into your house you: get down on your knees, move the cat, open the ammo box, take the ammo from the box, take the pistol off the nightstand, load the ammo in, take the safety catch off and only then do you leave the bedroom to deal with the intruder

I’d do the same sir, we are polite citizens we would never keep a loaded gun at all times strapped to our wrists with the safety off and a 500 milligram trigger pressure, shoot first at anything that moves and ask questions later

I lost a cat this way btw

Charlton Heston

I’m not sure whether this is a wind up or not, but i have to say i agree, and if i’m honest, my change to cycling has more than a little to do with the “same old” feeling in IL2.

I agree wholeheartedly. IL2 is the best sim i’ve ever played, but; boy, how i’ve played it! It’s great and all, but i’m sure if i exclusively ate T-bone steak for as long as i’ve flown IL-2 i’d be craving a bit of pork.

As for World of Warcraft, i have it as well and it’s brilliant, you do spend a lot of time at it, but it’s a jump-in, jump-out game too. Well worth getting as it’s so vast, you always have something varied to do. Anyone who has a free weekend should definately download the free trial and give it a try. Thats what i did 2 years ago after a year or so of ignoring it cos it’s a bit childish. But there are all ages in there and it’s fun. (BTW: if anyone is interested: I’m on Shattered Hand server as Horde “Jochi”, “Littledonkey” or “Hownow”)

I think either Lomac or Falcon4: Allied force is the way to go although Lomac can be buggy and if you’re tired of the mods then getting Lomac to run may just push you over the edge. Falcon is the most realistic sim ever, downside is that you’re stuck to F-16. Never played Strike fighters 2, but SF1 got a slating from the critics.

If we do all move en-mass to something else i might be tempted back. Even one night per week would siffice to get a bit of variation in the EAF and maybe tempt a few who have drifted away. Then there’s the prospect of learning to fly modern aircraft, i remember my learning period of EAF as the most enjoyable and flying something new would be great.

Also on the lack of people flying a particular sim, if EAF moved, then that 49 people would double if everyone got behind it, announcing a move to other sqdn’s may even attract some of their dissillusioned pilots to attend as well.

The longest post i’ve made in a while

Richy…

lol… Richy, mate, it’s an April fools… no-one is going anywhere!

Maybe it is a april joke. But Mike is right in this thing.

lol… Richy, mate, it’s an April fools… no-one is going anywhere!

thats what he thinks, now where have those transfer papers got to? I know the CO signed them I just have to pass them onto the adjutant…

This is it, then?

I’ve just got in, and everybody’s quite eager to go away?

Someone needs to tell mikke that aprils fools jokes only aloud up to midday of the first;)

PS Air Racing is a good test of skills at both low level flying and engine managment…its not just 110% and go;)

Well, yes, joking aside, like some of us have alrea said maybe there is more too it.

For now, I’m really looking forward to the Gothic Line campaign but after that I think we could benefit from some reflection. If we consider anything, please, please make it a standard install so we are all together again.

Richy - you cycle? thats what had taken up most of my time last year. Girlfriends’ taken it up since september and we both go out now at least three times a week. Much better now its got a bit warmer and brighter over here.

Sterling.

Yeah, just to keep fit, with a race at end of the year. My knee’s are a bit iffy and running is out until i get the weight down, but can’t get the weight down without running…and so on. I used to be big into road cycling when i was a kid. Bought a bike before Xmas, collected the rest of the kit and went out middle of last month, so far, done about 200miles and no knee issues:banana:

So hopeflly i can keep losing weight this way and combine it with running again. I’m not sure that the weight on the knee’s is the problem, but a soreness/ache comes on after about 2-3 weeks of running and i get the wobbles where a knee sort of gives way for a split second every now and again. Stopped running for 4 years now, and knee’s fine, but if i try to start again, same thing within a few weeks.

As for the change, erm…yeah, until i can spend what little free time i have flying rather than tweaking/fixing/patching i’ll likely be grounded. Maybe when the weather turns again later in the year i’ll be a regular again. It’s about time Oleg gave us something new i think, the community is fracturing with mods and such and it’s just too time consuming for me to get a game in.

Richy…

Over the 3 weeks how do you increase the frequency/distance of your running? Its likely it’ll be the way you are running as injuries tend to repair themselves after that long. Have you been to a running shop and had any form of gait analysis/running shoe diagnosis?

<looks at the blank faces staring back>
err… back to Mikke’s April fool.

Well, of course it had to be some truth to it, othervice no-one would even have started to believe it. Unfortunately I do think we are in a bit of a rut, and not just EAF, but the IL-2 community as a whole perhaps. I think the mods is a syndrome of that…

Anyway, that is not the reason I’m flying so seldom nowdays, but to some degree it might have contributed to me not working quite as hard to fixing that as I would have 5 years ago or so.

Yep, been to doctor…sent to NHS specialist, “nuthin wrong with your knee’s sonny” Must’ve been in my head then, maybe you should check that!

Persevered with doctor, sent to physio, can’t seem to see whats wrong, sent to podiatrist and have insoles to correct gait (still wear em constantly after 2 years), also went to Running specialist shop in Belfast, got on treadmill and they did what they do and sold me a pair of well supported running shoes for a comedy price. But the ache still comes on, someone suggested ECG scan as they had similar, but i’m gonna lose the weight first and try that, and if that doesn’t sort it, then i’ll play Mr Angry and demand they sort me out, i’ve been off running for almost 5 years now and i used to do 20-30 miles per week and i’d like to get back to it.

Keets, I know you’re into running, maybe someone you know has seen similar? It doesn’t show on X-ray and seems to come on during the run, maybe 3-4miles into a 5miler.

The first week is normally okay, then week 2 you notice it slightly, then as the weeks progress it gets worse and if you keep running (as i did) to hope it goes away, it becomes an ache all during the day. Also the slight weakness where the knee collapses slightly and for a split second, maybe going up stairs or something. Pain is like an ache, not sharp but dull and hard to place, although centrally in the knee seems to be the area.

I looked an illness up on the internet:eek::eek::eek:

Seems like “runners knee”, pain area about right, my arches collapsed in the army and doesn’t show up on X-ray! What do you think?

Feels a bit like toothache I’m guessing?

Runners knee is caused by the kneecap not tracking properly in the thigh bone (femur I think). This can be corrected through strengthening the correct thigh muscles. I’ve read running backwards for as little as 10 metres a day can help, but I’ve no idea why. I’ll find the detail and send it to you.

There’s also a patella knee strap thingy-ma-bob you can get which does something to help the kneecap.

You probably already know its an overuse injury that you can get when changing exercise etc. I’ve only had it slightly - but since I gave up playing football and it went away.

Do you heel strike when running? Most people as they get older run more upright which develops a heel strike. This acts as a brake to the forward motion of running, which is then transferred with each step, directly to the knee joint.

When I took up running I used to do this, then a few years ago read something about this and forced myself to land more midfoot (ball of foot), firstly by taking smaller steps (not overstriding), landing more under my centre of gravity and by increasing the frequency of steps (cadence). This has helped a lot with my knees and injuries.

Rather than bore the pants off everyone, I’ll PM you some stuff which may give you some more ideas.
