What would I need to install to get up to speed again?
I see some AWIW mentioned. And 4.09.
There is a 4.09b that I use some time now, but remember that for online flying the vanilla 4.08 is still recommended because other patches are still not allowed on most servers.
So I would say do not get rid of your 4.08 version if you want to go online…
