Middle-age pilot blues

1972 was a good year.

1972 was a good year.

Hey, stop spamming! This is a thread for middle-aged pilots, not for graybeards who cant’a hold a joystick anymore, like all of you from 72’ and older!

73 here

No you youngsters should show more respect for your elders. I rememrber a time before you were born, bla, bla ,bla…

Ya, when I started gaming we used a Joystick with a single button on it, had Tin Cans attached by string for or TeamSpeak and would run around the room at angles to make like we were in the Cockpit yelling chaaka, chaaka, chaaka,!

Errrr 91 here…

I’m so lonely.

 That old?! No wonder you’re feeling alone, everyone else at your age is starting to pass away.

Nice one Mikke, put the young whippersnapper in his place :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought I was the youngest Stunt, this wont do

Look on the bright side, at least we can all say we were there when it all started.

Golden age of online gaming that predates cheats and half products that we are served today for insane amount of money. If I would tell that to today’s 15yolds they would dismiss it as rambling of a mad man stuck in some utopia illusions about time long ago in a galaxy far away where politics was a honest and noble business

Talking about a blast from the past…blood’ell where have you been hiding Cy??? Lol good to see you mate and not on my six for a change.

You still flying??

Heya Swoop, good to hear from you mate!

Read on thread up (or below maybe) where I said hi. Been away but after seeing you all are still around, I bought flight stick yesterday to start with until I make final decision on HOTAS (CM is strong candidate, could get it for 175€ I think).

Ordered TrackIR 5 PRo with some add-on thingy just now, it seems a bit expensive for such ‘low tech’ electronics, but what the heck, as long as we can have some fun :).
Expect it in 5-10 days and then I’ll probably fire up engine once again. Looking forward to it TBH, and after some practice will probably reenlist for active duty if you’ll still have me and my bad English :).

Also not sure if anyone here is into space sims, but I used to love those and look forward to this Star Citizen. I don’t really expect it to be all it claims it will be, but i’ll still play it when it’s out. Also if anyone is into BF4 or Titan Fall when it will be out, I am all up for some up close and personal shooting while we’re not in the air. Just not sure if we old farts have reflexes those games demand, but I intend to find out since this year looks like a good year for PC gaming.

Cool!!

Yep it’ll be great to have you back and there is quite a choice for the flight simmer nowadays. Firstly we (EAF) are doing our best to include everyone in the flying, which means IL2 1946 as standard still. Bolted onto that is HSFX, a mod basically which we use to fly in massive online wars. Currently that is an SEOW type and we just finished defending Malta (51, 19, 602, 331 were all involved). Check out the threads in the war room about the latest adventure. Mondays and Thursdays are still are our usual meet times, I’m just taking a week or so R&R between wars (Moscow maybe).

Some of us also fly RoF and Clod (favourite of mine) with the Team fusion mod. This is a Battle of Britain sim with the latest in graphics, DM, FM etc and was hoped to be the next IL2, but at the time was so buggy 1C walked away and now TF has taken it on.

I’m still using an MSFF2 and the CH throttle and rudder with TIR 5 pro that I’ve had for years.

Fridays some of the other lads (92 especially) are getting into other sims, such as ARMA, etc. I now have two little ones and struggle to get the extra free time as its so precious to us both.

Post up in 19 and we will try our best to sort things out for you…and drink your bar tab.

Heh I know the struggle for free time, if it’s not kids, it’s wife or someone else in the family…

Going to stick to IL2 1946 for starters since I already own it, and will probably end up with similar gear like you at the end since CH throttle and rudder seem great. Just give me some time to get the equipment and set it all up and I’ll report for training and will also need help with setting game up with required mods and stuff. I’ve downloaded some UP 3.0 mod, seemed popular so I went for it but will reinstall game with proper one once ready to start with training.

Cy check out this for updates -

there is a very useful download, update and mod guide here

Worth making copies of your original before updating, especially when you get to stock 4.12.2

Good year for gaming yes Cy, games are now catching up with my PC kit, this is the future I warned you about

Ming

Hehe, I known it you’re still somewhere in the shadows watching over us.

Good to see you mate!

And do I see here who has bigger hardware contest starting? You know how that goes, first you tell us about your awesome kit, then we tell you how it is not all that impressive, and finally comes pat on the back with ‘it’s how you use it, all is in technique’ line…

Now depending how you read into upper sentence determine how old you actually got since perv mindset is directly proportional to age
