Microsoft will issue an emergency security patch Wednesday for all versions of Internet Explorer. The patch is considered a critical fix for the security flaw currently plaguing the IE browser. So far, more than 2 million computers are believed to have been infected.
This security update is rated Critical for all supported editions of Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and rated Important for all supported editions of Windows Vista

Somehow I have never have those problems with IE. But from time to time I have had to change my DNS servers in order to speed up the loadtime of the pages.
I seem to remember that Windows ME worked just the same. On some machine it worked flawlessly and on others it never became stable
It is all a question of taste. I am just glad I know that I have the option to choose something else if I need to
