I’m into open source and free software - cos I’m a skinflint!
I use Firefox and OpenOffice for most of my surfing and office needs. I also had a free version of PaintShopPro5 from PCPlus from a long time ago. Following my recent re-install I’ve lost the password I need to enable me to re-install PSP again
I only really used it to resize, crop and save IL2 screenshots as jpegs for publishing on the net etc.
OpenOffice alows me to edit the tga screenshots but cannot save them as jpegs, so I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good, free image editing program?
WB.
i’ve got an enitirely illegal version of Paint shop pro 6 that i could copy and send in the post, at least i think i can copy it, i assume i can becuase my mate simply copied his illegal disk to give me this one. If you want one PM me your address and i’ll send it off next week.

YES !!
Watch out, I’m banging my OpenSource drum again!
Actually, I use PaintShop Pro 9 for skinning, but it’s about the only “paid for” software I have, and that’s because I’ve used PSP for years and stayed with it.
If you have to buy something, you can offset the cost by going fully OpenSource / freeware and getting everything else for free. I can recommend…
FTP Manager - Filezilla
Email Client - Thunderbird
Zip / Unzip - Zip Genius
Antivirus - Avast!
Anti Spy - AdAware SE
For DivX and other codecs without the “unwanted extras” - ffdshow
For Real Player without the “unwanted extras” - Real Alternative
Note that OpenOffice now has native pdf writing, so you don’t need a separate pdf writer.
(cough PaintShop Pro runs fine as a copy cough)
Whiskey - try irfanview - http://www.irfanview.com/
Its free and is superb. What’s more you can convert .tga files straight to jpg/gifs etc.
Thanks Chaps,
I’m all Gimped up now but will try Irfanview as well.
Thanks for the offer Classic, but I try to stay ‘legit’ as far as possible. Call me old fashioned but its just the way I am.
@ Peegee, I’ve mentioned before about my Open Source fondness. I think its great. I use OpenOffice and Firefox as already stated along with AVG Antivirus and ZoneAlarm. I use online email from Yahoo as it means I can get at my mail from anywhere and also I don’t have to worry about saving addresses and emails when reformatting etc. Mind you if Yahoo go down - i’m up the proverbial creek.
Thanks again,
WB.
For Peegee,
Does ffdsshow allow DVD playback? if so how? cos I can’t play any DVDs at the moment.
TIA,
WB.
This will probably answer your questions better than I can…
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow
This one is the beauty, though, if you don’t have it already, grab a copy
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm
You can play all Real media without installing that demon spawn “Real Player”. Real Audio, Real movies, BBC internet radio, the whole caboodle
