I’ve been looking to join a English EAF Sqn for a week now I finally had a fly and made contact with a couple of members.
After having a great dogfight and chat with EAF92Meako this evening I was told i should introduce myself on here. So here I am
I’m 29 and from Telford in Shropshire. I have a keen interest in aviation and discovered IL2 around 10 months ago. I used to regularly fly Scottish Aviation Bulldogs and i was based at RAF Cosford at 8AEF and then with Birmingham University Air Squadron. Unfortunately, this was over 10 years ago so don’t do it for real anymore - although this seems like the next best thing!
I hope my bid to join an English EAF Sqn 19 or 92 is succesful.
Hi Wrighty - welcome to the forums and nice to ‘virtually’ meet you last night!
Apologies for the confused set-up last night - we were just messing about a bit with a dogfight, which is why there were 109s with RAF markings such flying about - I shot down one of my own side and nearly did for another due to poor aircraft/markings ID…
(though I think it should be a house rule that if we do one of those ‘1937 respawn with a year later model’ warm ups again, Blue side should only take axis fighters and Red only allied fighters…)
See you in the skies!
PS: There’s also 602 Sqn - Scottish, English, Northern Irish, Italian and American in the same squadron…
You can say that again, especially with two full-size Battle of Britain maps out soon for Il-2/1946. And with Rise of Flight (WW1 France) and Oleg Maddox’s Storm of War: Battle of Britain in the pipeline
Good to see you made it to the forum, enjoyable one on one dogfight at the end of last nights session.
As i said last night we will be online Thursday again with more dogfights and co ops running, really ought to get Whiskeys excellent Battle of Britain Co ops going again.
RAF Cosford brings back a lot of memories to me mate i used to be a volunteer at the Museum there many years ago, so i probably saw you flying overhead.
Excuse me again, Flash, but your black crosses DID really look like US stars to my blood-injected eyes…
Funny thing was - earlier I had been putting the entire contents of a Zero’s ammo belt into you for about 5mins, without any results:rolleyes: after seeing an IAR80 flying Red -
I was getting hacked to bits from my six o’clock before I realised the a/c you were chasing was a MiG-3 and I was being shot-up by said Red IAR80…!!!
Nice to see you on the server last night. Sorry I left not long after you arrived but look forward to flying with you again soon.
Out of interest, were you flying 4.09 vanilla or were you modded up? Most of us in 51, 92, 331 and 602 are using the AWI Mod so if you want to join us for some BoB Coops over the next few weeks until the next SE starts you’ll need the appropriate Mod.
Just ask, and we’ll get you sorted one way or another.
Did you fly out of Shawbury at all with the AEF and UAS? I spent a lot of time there whilst in the RAF. And Cosford just down the road was a regular day out for me.
Many thanks for all the welcome messages chaps. I’m a little overwhelmed
Hopefuly I’ll be able to get online on Thursday evening. Now i’ve filled in an application form do I have to change my callsign to an EAF Sqn?
Blimey! It’s a small world. I was there for a several years from around 1997 - 2000. I was lucky enough to get a job as Staff Cadet with 8AEF (fitting parachutes/strapping cadets in to the aircraft) then when I enroled at University I moved to UBAS.
I used to pop in to the museum from time to time as they have some great stuff there (even bigger now & FREE!!)
I have the AAA UI 1.1 with Cannons Map and relative aircraft etc. I also use a switcher to switch between all four possible versions. Will this be ok to use with EAF?
My first experience flying with the R.A.F. were DH Chipmunk’s based at R.A.F. Shawbury when I was in the A.T.C. & C.C.F.! A lovely aircraft! I can’t remember the year they retired the Chipmunk but I had many air experience flights from Shawbury from 1993 onwards. When they took them out of service 8AEF moved on to the Bulldogs.
