Just heard the games out. been looking at a few reviews and on
authentic settings it appears VERY realistic and as tough (almost) as the real thing. If you liked BIA (I know Osprey did) then this might be worth looking at. I
ll definitely be checking it up!
HMMM, pc version not out yet. Could be this Friday or next.
A game that plays in the Netherlands cant be bad
Well, I`ve had a look at it. First thing I did was check the Options.
I was 50\50 on how it was going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Options allow you to disable\enable just about everything. they haven`t forgotten those of us who like to play realistically. I took off all the symbols, help, etc, set up my controls no problem and started.
It`s quite cinematic in its presentation and is a lot like Band of Brothers.
I have to mention graphics first cos thats the bit that kept making me stop and look. In real life a messed up room and broken chairs are nothing, but when it
s all so visually realistic in a game you just gotta stare for a second. Colours aren`t too bright either, somewhat muted wash, I think.
Spotting Jerry with all icon settings off is suitably hard. In one building, it took me a while just figuring out where the shots were coming from. But keeping calm until I figured where they were eventually won out (with the help of Red).
Theres a
dig-infeature which I was most worried about. You press a button and you go into 3rd person and stick to a wall. Great for some, but not for me. thankfully, the game will allow you to do your own cover like the previous game by just hiding behind a wall or high ledge in 1st person. The
dig-inbutton guarantees cover, but I prefer
digging` in manually.
Some classic moments like when I hid behind a truck with wooden boards as an MG42 started firing at me and the boards started getting shot away, prompting me to move fast somewhere else!
Or when I was sneaking into a barn not sure if all enemies were dead when suddenly an enemy soldier appeared in front of me. I was caught completely by surprise and just before he fired there was a bang and a shot of blood exploded from his head, he rocked back and collapsed. One of the other men had shot him. It looked so damn realistic.
Its a gory game. Once again, I switched off the gimicky zoom view that shows them blow up or die in slow motion, but for me it
s more realistic when you see the spurt of blood from a headshot in the distance or when later you walk among the bodies and suddenly notice a body missing half a head or a leg. Its quite grusomely real in the aftermath of a battle. I don
t need it in my face unless the enemy really is in my face.
Ive only just started, but it
s pretty good. just wish it had a skirmish mode like the previous version since once this is done, it`s done.
Looks interesting. I think I tried the first BIA game but never got into it, had some things I found annoying about it (the marker showing how much more the enemy needed to be shot etc), and got bored or perhaps too annoyed before I got very far.
Edit, looking at the trailer on YouTube I remember that perhaps the lack of accuracy when shooting might have been a big reason I got fed up. I was shooting at someone at less then 25 m with a rifle, and missed even though my sights where spot on! That right is something that is a real spoiler for me. I know pretty well the level I can shoot IRL, so making me shoot like I’m blind on both eyes, well, no go…
That is, unless I’m confused and thinking about something completely different! :tongue2:
But that was the old (first) version, I hope they have fixed it by now!
Been playing at it all day… Very cinematic as stated, and as a first person shooter its so absorbing, and you get sucked right into the story line…
As for ‘realistic’… lets think about it. It’s a game… there is no computer that can simulate what it’s like to recieve incoming rounds, or the effects of high velocity rounds on the human body…
As to entertainment value… top marks! and thats with all the gimmicks turned on so you can take everything in and get fully absorbed so you don’t miss a trick.
It is ‘cinematic’… it’s done like that so you feel you are in a film, not the real thing, so you can get wrapped up in all it’s graphic glory.
My vote… If you like WWII first person shooters, you will absolutely love it!
I’m mad on the second world war and have played all the CoD series and the MoH lot too… This has been top notch I can assure you!
Yea, but what makes it for me is that it lets you play how you want. It doesnt force you to have all the gimmicky stuff if you don
t want it. And a game can get more realistic
than not; that doesnt mean I want real, which is different. For me more
realistic is when I can play the game without coloured icons all over the place and crosshairs. For others it
s different, but again, its about choice and this game gives it. It
s also pretty grimly realistic with issues such as civilian executions, etc. Yes it`s a pretty good game imho. At least first impressions anyway.
Seen my wife play it, she loves controling her own squad. Shames she’s almost finished, 50 quid for a game is a lot, then she completes them in 2:mad::roflmao:
Sorry Peace… I wasn’t having a dig mate, just getting my views across…:o
I have given the game a shot with all icons off etc, you don’t need them to gauge when a unit is suppressed, your guys will shout that out anyway… but I do love all that ‘dig in’ feature, so you can see all the action, plus it gives you that ‘firing around cover’ feature too.
Those ‘cinematic’ moments all in slow motion are super when you get that grenade/bazooka/headshot absolutely right… just fantastic stuff. Just like the movies!..
Not a problem Trooper, I didn`t think you were having a dig.
Anyway, I finished the gameplay (Yes, two days over the wekend!) and that was with all the handholds off. Afraid I am dissappointed after the initial excitement.
games too short and it has quite a lot of arcady stuff, carrying and accurately shooting with the MG42 and the arcady tank battles. German troops never attack, just defend until dead. It calls itself
Authentic, but hardly. The graphics are VERY realistic, but again, I didn
t buy it for the graphics.
Earned In Blood did it better. I think they sacrificed a lot of gameplay for long cinematics. A bit like Mass Effect did.
Its not a terrible game, but knowing what I know now, I
d wait 6 months until released for £10 in the bargin bucket.
In the end 5 out of 10.
Guess I`m just too harsh a judge when it comes to games base on reality.
Roll on Fallout 3!
mmm… not sure why they decided to put the tank bit in… you are right about that. (just got to that bit)…
yes, you are right again, you are being to harsh… its not as bad as all that, in fact, its worth it just for the cinematic effects in my book.
Peace is right about the couple of arcade bits, but I am thoroughly enjoying it…
it all comes down to individual likes and dislikes of course…
I say, get it… its great!
For a closer look… follow this link and watch in high definition, a 5 minute video from the developers… In the ‘realism’ trailer, they explain exactly why and what they have set out to achieve with the game… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMWMgX9DKWs&NR=1
