:roflmao: Knock on wood.
Really quite fun looking back. I started flying online late summer/autumn -99, in EAW (European Air War), after I got my internet connection at home. By then I had started loosing interest in flying EAW offline, but, almost by accident, found that I could play it on the Zone. Had flown a couple of times when I ran into another swede and we started talking, and it ended up with him recruiting me to EAF and 331 (on his birthday! :p). After some fights with and against Paddy and others, and an evaluation flight with with Erik from Norway I was accepted as P/O.
Flying online really brought new life into EAW, and me and Paddy spent many, many hours each week flying, not just on training nights, but actually most nights every week, and we had loads of fun. It also made us a pretty good team, and we where not afraid to take on anyone, though we knew that when we got to fight against Dolfo and the rest of LLv34 we would have a hard fight, especially if they got to fly their favourite setup (them in 109E and us in Spit1).
Sometime around 2000/2001 interest in EAW was starting to fade, and other sims started to pop up. I think I first got to see the demo for IL-2 during summer 01 when there was a big meet at Leuwarden. The transition period between EAW and IL-2 was a bit shaky, but eventually everyone was on the IL-2 train.
What have happened when it comes to hardware?
Well, when I joined EAF in -99 I was flying on my Celeron 300 overclocked to 450 MHz with a TNT card. Somewhere along the way I updated it to a Celeron 600 overclocked to 900MHz, and about the time IL-2 was released I upgraded to a Athlon XP1600++ (slightly overclocked gives the extra + ;)).
I had throttle, stick and rudder pedals when I started, and while I upgraded to TM Hotas along the way, the basic idea is the same.
TIR is of course something that came later, and while I was slightly sceptical at first I was convinced after I had tried it the first time, and frankly it have meant almost as much to flying as going to analogue joystick did.
Anyway, I’ll stop talking memories now, but if someone want to continue the history of EAF can be found on our main site - History.
If someone want to add to that page (or even correct something), please write and mail to me, and I’ll try to add it.
The site would need a little love, the basic of it is the same as Serval did something like 7 years ago. :o I have thought about making a major revision of it from time to time, but it tends to get stuck when I think about how much work it would take. :tongue2:
Well, here’s to one more decade of EAF! :ani_beer:
Oh, and happy birthday Zulu and Paf!
It’s actually more then 8,5 years since Paf joined us, he must be getting old. :roflmao:
ok Zul and Paf pay all
I still remember a night in The Zone when I met the first time a good guy from the EAF. It was when I decided to apply. It was probably around Feb or Mar 2000. Than I was accepted as a P/O on 8th of May, 2000 (It is already nearly 8 years in the EAF, and I still remember the EAW nights, sweating in training with T/O Mikke! )
Then I met some others Italian in the Zone: Wildcat, Max, Mr.No and our missing friend Italo.
On 27 November 2000, the EAF51, the Italian “subsidiary” was born. Some time later Nape arrived, and the Italian Saqudron was transfored into the “Club Med” Squadron :roflmao:
The rest is hystory…
I still remember the EAW nights, sweating in training with T/O Mikke!
And screaming and going down in flames every time yes! My wife thought it was online judo with the wrestling of the stick
Thanks for the best time Mikke and well done everybody, happy anniversary and 10 more years please
Ming
Happy Birthday To US EAFers!! So good that you are there and that we have us!!! :ani_beer::holiday:
