First impressions of BoS

you mean this one?

get your wings and we can talk of it!

Ok, so bit by bit BoS is starting to work. I’ve got controls set up that allow me to fly the Bf109 - but I’m leaving the Russian planes for now. The aircraft feel a lot ‘heavier’ than in Cliffs of Dover and the 109 does not roll anything like the 109E in Cliffs.

I have got to stop flying the 109 like a Hurricane or Spitfire though, and I would like to be able to do more in the way of ground attack missions…the 109F is not good for that! I’m sure it will come with time.

I still prefer Cliffs but at least I can go some way towards flying in BoS now.

Nice to hear OD. I’ll fly LW with you since I really like the 109F and FW190.
The 109 can be thrown around quite a bit and will give the Yak1 an even fight. But the Yak will come out on top in a level turn fight.
FW190 is a pure boom&zoom aircraft with enough fire power to excel in the roll. Also good for GND attack.

If I can get into it enough then I’ll consider buying the Fw190 for Ground Attack, because the 109 doesn’t carry any weapons! I’ll have to have a wash after everytime I fly the 109 though…it makes me feel abit dirty! :roflmao:

you can carry bombs with it but you have to unlock them playing the campaign or unlocking them with premium edition.

That’s one of the things that really annoys me with the game. I don’t want to play the campaign. I don’t have time to play the campaign. The time I get to fly I am online so I don’t want to waste it unlocking stuff that should just be there. It’s not like I am missing anything by not completing the campaign.

you’ve got two opportunities to unlock all easily:

1: Pay the premium edition

2: Try to let the missions fly by herself setting the game to normal mode, and usin the autopilot, and speed 2 of the game, you’ll complete many missions and more XP you get more unlocks. This is pretty easy and not time spending, just let the mission go every 30 min.

Seeing as I’m not a huge fan of the game and I’ve bought it once I don’t want to pay more for it - that’s a con in my eyes.

May have to go for Option 2.

EDIT: Sod it, bought the 190 and now I can unlock it all. So I can at least conduct ground attack missions. I do object to having to do that though. Doesn’t sit well with me.

long time since i post anything and now it’s time to be active again but i need help.

i have been looking for profiles like tjm,tmm files for my cougar to start fly il2 BoS because i have big problems to manage keybindings

my settings now work for old IL2 but there is so much new options in BoS.

and i can’t manage to program the stick myself, get used to get all files from my old team8 Spider when we fly IL2 Bomber long time ago.

please anybody help me

i think it can be useful this link to set your keys… and maybe you need some help. we are very active in the last few months so if you can be online night time or saturday you’ll easily find someone!

OD…
Happy you got the FW190! She’s an nice addition to the game and Baz can confirm that the FW is an easy kill in a Yak1. Without a wingman of course.

Mouse Control.
Just tried it. LOL!

A definite advantage with gunnery in servers with external views, but SA is poor, unless you set up padlock and such things.
You can make the impossible deflection shots that us in cockpit flyers can’t make. You never stall since the computer wont let you. The flight controls are flapping all over the place to get the plane pointing in the direction of your cursor.

I will try my best to avoid those servers! But I understand the reason behind mouse control. Its better to get more customers involved in this. Perhaps some of them will convert to more realistic flying?

Mas! Good to see you again!

I’m flying BoS with the same joystick files as I use for CoD (and they are almost totally unchanged from old IL-2), I haven’t bothered to make any changes for BoS as I’ve just started flying it, I probably should look into setting it up for engine management, but I think I will still use the same files as I do now. The only big change I have from my CoD setup (functions on throttle and stick) is that I use the thumbwheel on the throttle to zoom in and out (did you hear that Puffman, zoom! :o), in old IL-2 I used it for flaps, but in CoD I actually don’t use it for anything! :o But in DCS I also use it for zoom, so that carries over to BoS for me.
(For DCS I have a separate joystick file, made for the A-10, but that isn’t really great for the P-51 etc, so for that I use the same joystick files as I do for everything else.)

Really really happy to see you MAS!!!

Here are my target maps for CLIFF and BOS:

Hope they can be useful for you!

After a quick test this morning my aircraft of choice is definitely the Fw190! It response perfectly, it’s fast, it rolls quickly and stops right when you tell it to. It can be loaded up with all sorts of things and if you go head to head with it then you’re doomed!

thx all for the response

Mikke is it possible for you to sent your files to so i can check them out ?

i suppose i have to change all buttons in Bos and CoD for my cougar to get them work ??

i also have Bos in 2 different installations, activate Bos for steam and i wonder if i can copy all my settings from the first to Steam ?

i have try some of CoD and what of them you prefer guys CoD or BoS ?

Our official flight sim is Cliff od Dover
we are waiting the start of the Storm of War 3.0 Server/Campaign to get back in full action!

in the meantime we are tasting/testing Russian skies.
Bos has proven to be fresh and new! Good for a change
IMHO it has a nice FM and different type of combats (low alt engagements)
Engine Management is much more simple than Clod
The game engine is less powerful in handling many objects (more difficult to create big campaigns)
The net code has some problems (server kicking people out)

But could become a nice idea to use it from time to time!

Files in the mail Mas!

I prefer flying CoD, but I don’t regret buying BoS any more. It does gives a bit of variation to flying Hurri or Spit all the time in CoD.
If I had more time for flying, I think DCS would be my prefered sim, but with me flying only twice a week (if that!) more or less, DCS is too much for me except for a quick flight now and then, not enough time to learn it good enough to start to have really fun in it. :anpaper:

Damage Model.

This is FANTASTIC! We were fooling around yesterday. Baz was hit in the tail by Stuntman, but his plane seemed ok. Until he started a high G turn, that ripped his damaged tail off and down he went.
This is what really impresses me about the game. If I have a midair I wont just explode, but my wing will fall off if it hit the other aircrafts tail. Of course then his tail will be severed.
In Clod and il2 1946 both planes just explode!

We also saw the effects of fuel tanks on fire. Again Baz flew around with his right wing ablaze. All of a sudden there was an explosion when the other tank ignited! Awesome effect!

I was hit in an FW190 and all seemed ok, but after a minute flames started pouring out of my plane. No, I had not been hit again, but this was the result of the previous damage.

Flight model is very good also. It’s not perfect of course, but one of the best I’ve seen. The effect of G could be improved. Combat pilots can take more than the average Joe, but the onset of G strain comes rather late in the game. I guess the Germans and Russians had G suits back then.
