Empire: Total War

Steam has a hires trailer that you can download and then find it under your My Media tab for replay value, stunning

Ming

the game is to all intents and purposes complete, but is apparently delayed until March for Multiplayer.

It does look very good from what i`ve seen and heard.

Ohhh yes. Eagerly waiting for this one. Looks great, I just hope the naval battles don’t detract from rest of the game.

downloading via Steam …

DEMO is out on Steam grab it while its hot!

Ohh, the first seafight gone to the french :o
On first view the seafights and its controls looks like a good realization and its really fun. Don’t know yet how to get the best out of it. Shortly after the first pass with nice broadsides my ships lost formation and then the french were getting on them.

Yep, I lost all my ships to the French :o Did the same, good broadsides but a lot of ships to manage at the same time made it difficult and not realizing how much the wind was effecting the speed sometimes just sitting there like target practice, the sea battles are very detailed you can even see men working below decks when your ship looks like swiss cheese and the marines take pot shots at passing ships.

Yes there’s a demo out too Osprey!

‘Pokerface’ Ming

I’m sure the AI is cheating they now own America on my version

Installing full version now, grabbed it at local store today.

Lucky bastard, but you can’t play before it’s activated Steam tomorrow :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep, but I hope it will be ready for activation when its available on Steam in 35mins.
Otherwise I have to wait till tommorrow, which is luckily a free day for me.

Activation is working now, for download and DVD version

First impressions:
I like it very much till now.

negative:
-Loading times.
still as long like with the demo for me.

good points:

  • diplomacy.
its much easier now to make use of it and it seems more reliable.
  • research
the research really looks good. in the beginning you have to go with old tactics, weapons and formations. no squares, primitive bajonetts. once youve put them on you have to fight the rest of the battle with them and cannot shoot anymore
Im looking forward to some advanced tactics like where 2 ranks are shooting and loading rotatory and increasing firepower.
  • region control.
the regions are bigger like in MTW, but you now have several cities included which can produce specials etc.
  • graphics.
I just watched for minutes my prussian lines marching in high grass with morning fog laying over the fields

+/-
AI.
still not what you would really like, but much better than in the demo (maybe because demo was scripted) Also the AI is sometimes doing really surprising attacks.

Nice report Paf

Ah, didn’t know that.

I should have known you’re playing the Prussians, stay away from the United Provinces then

Its the simplest bayonette. with abit research you get a better one were you can switch to melee and fire and back.

I should have known you’re playing the Prussians, stay away from the United Provinces then

I think I have to leave them, they are too strong. They are the only european country that have a colony in india (ceylon) which brings alot of money
Prussia doent seemt too easy at the biginning. You just own Brandenburg and Eastprussia and both are devided by polish westprussia. Well I thought I have to connect my country and now Im in war with Poland/Lithonia, Sachsen
and Kurland
Hmm, maybe I need to restart, hehe

Light Infantry trapping enemy:
For smooth fights I needed to put down the graphics :frowning:

Anymore comments on this game chaps?

I’ve been reading some of the user comments on Play.com and Amazon and the impression is not good. Lots of people having problems with Steam activation as well.

WB.

As some of you know I do not like Steam or the idea of it at all. I wish there had been other options for people who may have no access to the net. I have made my feelings quite clear on their forums even to the point of bannage. This is the first TW to ever do this and as a fan I don`t like the implications.

HOWEVER…

I have purchased the game from the store. I advise do this. Don`t Download from Steam.

I made a point of Activating in the morning when it was quiet. The Activation went through relatively quickly. After about 2 hours, the whole thing was ready.

Its defintely a very good game and a worthy successer of the TW games. And considering im not really into the 18th century warfare that`s saying something.

However, I still protest at the fact that Steam is the only option and therfore penalises others without a connection to the net.
