I’ve flown the Camel on 3 occasions today in the quick fly mission, on each one, after a random length of time, my PC switches off. I don’t me a power down I mean a stone cold stop dead in its tracks as if the power to the house had been disconnected. I flew the same quick fly mission in the Se5 with no issues at all.
The other bizarre issue with this is that when I then go online and I go to websites such as EAF and Sim HQ with logins required all my stored login data needs to be re-entered.
Anybody any ideas?
I’m downloading the latest Nvidia drivers as I type and I may nip out and buy Win7 and spend the evening upgrading.
I’ve installed Win7 and the problem still persists. I’m thinking the power supply is overheating and switching itself off. The case near the PSU gets very hot which I have not noticed before.
I’ve run RoF with the case side open and the problem is still there so I don’t think the gfx card or cpu is overheating.
I have 4GB Ram on an MSI Mobo with an Athlon 64x2 6000 cpu and a GTX 275.
My current PSU is a 550w unit so I think I may need a 600w+ unit. Anyone with any knowledge of PSU’s can offer advice?

That means you’ve suffered an unexpected power failure with files open and now possibly corrupted, backup cookies and favourites

I know about them WB but you can only try another power supply and if the problem goes away- the substitution test. Not very helpful sorry mate but it’s the only way to tell for sure. In the meanwhile reducing the load hanging off the power supply would minimise the failures - if the failures are being caused by a flaky/overloaded psu
550w
People having similar problems swear that 550W ‘is enough’. I’m dubious, mine’s a 1000W just in case. At least then one can rule out the power supply. Is the thinking
Trouble is, if you replace the power supply and still get the crashes…

Check the power supply fan is working ok, could be blockages by fluff and wotnot in the output grille, do not have the fan output pointing at a close wall while testing, make sure the hot air clears the case area. A fan sucking in cool air at the front of the case will maximise flow-through
Maybe use the CPUID utility to monitor temperatures of GPUs and CPU
Check your BIOS setup and set a temperature alarm in there if possible on that mobo
First port of call, as RoF is a dodgy game would be to check the event data in the event viewer which can be found in START>CONTROL PANEL>ADMINISTRIVE TOOLS>EVENT VIEWER and check which error events happened at that time, I had an issue similar to this many years ago with il2 on the old trusty Athlon rig and it turned out to be a wiggy ati gfx driver.

There’s a clue there that Windows may have been unable to write error files as it didn’t close down gracefully. You can’t call for Mother when your throat’s been cut and an unexpected power-off on a switched-mode power supply (soft-start, soft-off normally, which Windows depends upon) means an artery severed in a microsecond
