Best Catalyst driver for IL2

My hold good ASUS V9520 (FX5200) graphic card is broken, now have buy an ATI Radeon 9800SE but have problem with new driver Catalyst 8.2 on XP. Someone use Radeon? Any suggestion for hold driver? THX

I am using these cards many years. There is big problem with ATI drivers. As I discovered for different card the different driver is the best. Not the last driver is the best every time. And at the last time it also depends on the version of windows you have (XP or Vista). I used my 9800PRO till May 2007. And with all drives from that time I was very satisfied as for the IL2 and all other games. Now I have X1950PRO. The latest good driver was 7.11 for XP. All the following drivers (7.12,8.1,8.2) have very low performance (about 1/3 slower). For Vista I have performance problems with all drivers still. So my suggestion is. Try older driver. Start with 7.11 and if it will not be OK for you try some more old.

I recently did a rebuild for EAF602_Alan with a 9800 pro ( 128 Version )

Did you run a cleaner application to fully remove the nvidia 5200 drivers before installing the 9800 driver ?

If not, that might be the source of your problem.

I found the latest driver very sensitive to conf.ini settings and it took me some time to get acceptable performance from the 9800 pro.

If its any help i will ask Alan to post up his final conf.ini, running @1280x1024x32 ( native panel resolution )

That wont be until he gets home this evening though.
