    Osprey, Whiskey - Heads up

DCS A10 is 50% off right now on Steam.

If you don't want a Steam version, Direct2Drive also have it discounted, though not 50%.

    You know you want to.

Got it last night after reading your post. Was hoping to get you to take me through the start up procedure etc tomorrow evening but just found out I'm working a late shift instead of a day!

Keep the the training posts going as per earlier in this thread. Very useful.

    Hawg 4 checking in soon.

Just had a trip to the tanker to unwind.... I might as well post up how to use Mavericks on the way back.

There's two ways to use Mavericks, you can either use the Maverick camera, which is pretty poor. Or you can seek out your target using the TGP (Targeting Pod).

The TGP is an A10 drivers best friend.

It is much easier and has a greater viewing distance than the Mav and can also be used with the other ordnance. Once you have the target in the TGP, you create an SPI (Sensor Point of Interest) then slave the Maverick to that SPI.

    Here's how to do it.

    Turn on the TGP

Switch on the Mav Camera by clicking OSB14 (MAV) and then selecting the Maverick EO power on OSB6*

*Note for OSB's, count from the top row, left most and clockwise

When the TGP has warmed up (actually its cooled down but bear with me) we need to change the mode of the laser to latch. To do this, select the TGP by pressing OSB 16, then select OSB2 (A-G) and finally press OSB1 (CNTL). Latch is set to off as default on OSB8.

Its worth doing this in each mission, otherwise you end up holding down the steering wheel/laser pinkie switch if you want to activate the laser.

You now need to make the right MFD your SOI (Sensor of Interest) by long pressing the Coolie hat right (more than two seconds). Its then worth setting the TGP to boresight, by doing a short press back on the China Hat (red switch on the throttle of the HOTAS Warthog) which will make your TGP go to boresight mode. This is because otherwise it looks towards the next waypoint, which is fine if you're waypoint is at the target, but no good for targets of opportunity.

    Right MFD SOI

Fly towards your target, in our case the recently rebuilt control tower at Batumi international and begin to use the slew button to slew in to the control tower. Note the slew diamond on the Control tower

We now need to mark the target and make it the Area/Point in the TGP by pressing the TMS switch up short (less than a second). Just to make sure of the targeting, we need to paint the target with the laser (Nosewheel steering pinkie on), this will calculate the distance properly and prevent the missile from overlflying and landing behind the target. Now we've done that, we make that point the SPI (Sensor Point of Interest) by perfoming a TMS long press up.

We've now got the TGP looking at the target. The SPI is the control tower. All that remains is to send that data to the Mav.

Using the coolie hat right short (or pressing the Mav button on the right MFD) bring up the Mav view. To send the SPI to the Mav, we "Slave all to SPI" by performing a china hat long press forward. As this happens the Mav gimbal will spin round and attempt to point to the previously created SPI. If it can't see it due to it being out of view of the missile camera, you'll get a Gimbal Limit error on screen. Point the aircraft at the target to remedy this. (see below)

The Mav is now looking at the target, one final thing needed is to enable the Mav lock. Press TMS short press up. You'll see the cross hair "vibrate" on the MFD if its successful and the Mav is ready to launch.

How do you like those apples.

    Looking good Keets.

I've discovered my dreaded stutters are now occurring in A10 and ARMA so it's definitely a system problem. New CPU/Mobo/RAM in the post and a week off next week to get it all up and running.

Looking forward to some (stutter free hopefully) flying next week.

A10 formation takeoff anyone? (Probably more like a formation canopy close at the moment cos that's about as far as I've got!)

Just out of interest Keets, what are your settings? The cockpit instruments in your screen shots look much crisper and better defined than mine at the moment.

    Cheers,

    Nice one Whiskey.

    Here's my settings

With the images, it could be due to the benefits of resizing from 1920x1200 res down to 800x500. I usually apply a measure of sharpening as well because resizing induces a bit of fuzziness.

At 1920x1200, it does look clear though. Have you got HDR turned on?

    Below is an example
